Boutique Manager – Kilt
Rose is a Boutique Manager at Kilt – a fashion label that is designed and made locally. Her role involves running her small team of four, styling customers, tracking stock, rostering, ensuring the shop looks beautiful and there’s a positive atmosphere in-store.
Rose takes pride in helping ladies rather than ‘selling’ and strives to make them feel as amazing as her team does in the Kilt garments. The boutique environment allows her to spend one on one time with customers, build relationships and ultimately trust. For Rose it’s all about being genuine and honest – providing the same service she hopes her mum and sister would receive when out shopping.
Working for a New Zealand made company provides unique opportunities. Each fortnight Rose gives the design team customer feedback, ideas and inspiration which form the basis of new styles. She also benefits from the close knit nature of the team which she describes as “one big family”.
Each day at Kilt starts with a morning catch up with all the other Boutique Managers and Rose frequently interacts with the Support Office – no one’s off limits even the owner!
Rose first joined the brand as a part time stylist in Palmerston North. On moving to Auckland she was able to transfer to the Ponsonby boutique in the same capacity before taking on her current role – one of her biggest career highlights to date.
Having experience as a stylist helps Rose hugely as a manager. She understands the challenges and rewards her team face and takes a hands on approach – something she herself always respected from her past managers.
