Lee Robinson

In his role as Group Recruitment Manager Lee oversees the recruitment for Michael Hill’s 280 stores across New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US. His purpose is to lead his recruitment team whilst maximising efficiency, decreasing staff turnover and increasing employee retention.

Lee’s role has a number of key responsibilities including refining recruitment systems and processes, building relationships within the business, making sure the brand is represented appropriately and analysing monthly placement metrics.

To get to where he is today Lee gained a Bachelor of Business. Whilst studying he worked part time in a coffee shop before going on to run it – his first taste of management. Following this Lee did a stint in IT / Telecomms working in call centre management teams before moving into recruitment and going on to join Michael Hill in 2013. His role was newly created (previously it only oversaw the New Zealand and Australasian markets) giving Lee an exciting opportunity to make his mark.

In his short time with the brand Lee has already experienced numerous career highlights. These include a reduction in Turnover within the first 3 months for Manager in Training roles, the organisations most important role, facilitating the successful recruitment of nearly one thousand Christmas casuals in 2 months and effectively taking on the recruitment of support office functions which until this time were 50 % out sourced.

Day to day Lee enjoys working within the retail industry due to it’s fast paced nature – the game is constantly changing and there’s always a new challenge. He finds working for a kiwi brand that is agile and constantly evolving incredibly rewarding.

Lee also speaks highly of the brands culture. The expectations are high but so to are the rewards and recognition on offer, the senior management team are highly accessible (working onsite you’re likely to end up chatting to the CEO in the lunch room!), the brand focuses on promoting their own and despite being public traded Michael Hill has retained it’s family feel.
